Embellished resumes,skill gap key challenges in fresher hiring

Fresher hiring is becoming increasingly difficult for recruiters as they have to grapple with challenges such as embellished resumes, skills gap and attitudinal issues, says a survey.

While recruiting freshers offers the most cost-effective means of hiring entry-level talent, it brings its own set of challenges for hiring managers and the biggest one is understanding the capability of a fresher on the basis of their resumes.

“Be it campus hiring or large-scale walk-in drives, recruiters and companies grapple with several problems that are unique to fresher recruitment,” Wisdomjobs.com Founder & CEO Ajay Kolla said.

According to its survey, around 65% of recruiters surveyed said understanding the capability of a fresher on the basis of their resume is the biggest challenge while, 62% said they regularly come across embellished resumes.

Moreover 57% of recruiters felt the engineering freshers they hire do not have the necessary technical skills required of their profiles, including coding skills, while, 36% of recruiters say non-engineering undergraduates are under-skilled in their core areas.

Kolla said: “From sketchy resumes and insufficient practical exposure to unrealistic expectations about the job and attitudinal issues, recruiters feel are some of the problems which companies deal with as they try to onboard fresher talent”.

Besides, resume related issues recruiters have to deal with issues like qualification wise skills gap and attitudinal issues also, the Wisdomjobs.com survey said.

Regarding attitudinal issues, the report said that 52% of the surveyed recruiters said that freshers struggle with team dynamics and 42% of them said that freshers are unable to meet work deadlines.
