NEW DELHI: India’s exports to Pakistan have not taken a major hit despite worsening relations between the two neighbours after the Uri attack in Jammu & Kashmir.
The government too has not interfered in trade related activities, sources said. The Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) said that the government has not sent any missive asking exporters to stop dealing with Pakistan .“We expect it to remain normal, there may have been a few individual exporters who may have decided to stop dealing with Pakistan but that does not reflect government policy,” Ajay Sahai, director general, FIEO
According to FIEO, India’ s total export to Pakistan stood at $2.17 billion (around ₹14,500 crore) while imports were $400 million (almost ₹2,700 crore). Siddhartha Rajagopal, executive director, Texprocil said that cotton exports have been normal and all existing contracts honoured .“The new contracts will be signed after October, we need to know how that shapes up ,” he said.
The situation may, however, push trade through informal channels, including through UAE.
