The Australian share market fell 6 per cent, extending its longest losing streak in a quarter of a century on fears a deteriorating US economy would drag others down with it.

The Australian share market fell 6 per cent on Tuesday, extending its longest losing streak in a quarter of a century on fears a deteriorating US economy would drag others down with it.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index fell to as low as 5,245 and was down 5.97 percent or 333 points at 5,247.4 at 0415 GMT.
