The home ministry is believed to have raised security concerns because of the firm's presence in Pakistan.

When contacted, MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions India (MITS), a joint venture backed by Telcordia, said it they had not received any communication from the ministry.

"Telcordia has setup a joint venture in India, complying with the laws of the land. The joint venture company, MITS, which was awarded the licence to establish and offer mobile number portability in two zones, as well as Telcordia are in full compliance of DoT's conditions stipulated in the MNP licence," an MITS spokesperson told PTI.

DoT’s requirements had stipulated that the Indian entity should have a foreign partner with relevant expertise in mobile number portability.

Mobile number allows users to change operators while retaining the number.

DoT sources said the home ministry had raised concerns regarding Telcordia's presence in Pakistan and had requested the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to review its clearance to the company.
