Infosys, which is expanding in China like industry leader Tata Consultancy Services to help global customers and hire low-cost staff, told the stock exchange its new centre would also house back-office services and training facilities.
Nasdaq-listed Infosys said its Shanghai centre would have a capacity to seat 1,000 engineers. It already has 250 employees in China.
The Shanghai project is expected to start in January next year, Infosys said.
While China is considered a potential rival for India's $17.2 billion export industry in software and business services, Indian companies are expanding there to help mainly US and European customers, seek local clients and build a global footprint.
