Engineering major Larsen & Toubro on Wednesday appointed Subramanian Sarma as CEO and managing director of L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, a wholly-owned subsidiary.
Sarma, who had earlier served as managing director of Onshore engineering company, will drive the L&T Group’s strategy of expanding its hydrocarbon business across geographies, particularly in the Middle East. Sarma has already been appointed to the board of L&T as a non-executive director.
“Mr Sarma brings with him global experience and competence to drive our hydrocarbon business in India and abroad,” said L&T group executive chairman AM Naik. “With his international experience, he will be at the forefront of leading L&T Hydrocarbon in becoming one of the best in class global companies offering comprehensive EPC solutions across the spectrum – upstream, mid and downstream and pipelines.”
L&T plans to grow its domestic and international market share in the hydrocarbon business, an area which has seen major slow down recently. Sarma will be based in the Middle East to monitor on-going projects and to also drive new business development.
“I have always believed that L&T Hydrocarbon is one of the most respected names in the industry and it will be my endeavor to enlarge its global footprint,” Sarma said.
Sarma is a post graduate in Chemical Engineering from IIT, Bombay.
