The two units at the plant has a capacity to produce 300,000 ACs per year and employs around 800 people.

The fire broke out Wednesday night and continued till Thursday morning.

The second unit, with 80% of this capacity, is totally destroyed and has become non-operational. Around Rs 50 crore was invested for its expansion only last year.

"We don't know what caused the fire as our team is investigating at the factory, but there is no casualty," said a senior official from Mehsana district.

The factory begun operations in 1991 and Hitachi launched ACs in India in 1999.
