"India could generate nine lakh jobs by 2025 in biomass gasification, of which three lakh would be in manufacturing of stoves and six lakh in areas such as processing into briquettes and pellets and the fuel supply chain," Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Secretary Dinesh Rai said.
Changing patterns of employment and investment resulting from efforts to reduce climate change and its effects were already generating new jobs in many sectors, he said at Green Investors Meet 2009, organised by CII.
"India is working on promoting solar cells, biomass and green buildings," he said.
On the MSME sector, he said the units needed to initiate environment standards as much as quality standards.
He also said the government was in the process of creating a fund for energy audit for the MSME sectors.
"We are creating and finalising a scheme for energy audit," he said adding the fund would be used to create awareness among MSMEs for energy conservation.
