Kaur, who got married in November last year to an advocate in Mukstar district of Punjab, said, "I was sure to clear the exam as I was preparing for the IAS, but never thought of bagging the first position. I am very happy and the credit for my success goes to my mother and my husband, who always motivated me, while I was preparing for my exams."

She did her schooling from government model senior secondary school in Sector 16, Chandigarh, and her graduation and post graduation in Zoology from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Amaninder's husband, Harsharanjit Singh Brar, who is an advocate, also took the exam, but could not clear it.

Her mother is a retired government teacher, while her father, who retired from Air force as sergeant, died last year.
