Agarwal’s appointment will soon be cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

He will replace the incumbent home secretary Anil Kumar whose term ended on December 8. A 1988-batch officer, Kumar had joined as the UT home secretary in December 2011.

The Haryana government had earlier sent a panel of three officers for the UT home secretary’s post. The names sent to the UT administration had names of IAS officers Anurag Agarwal, Rajbir Singh (1995 batch) and Rajiv Ranjan (1998 batch). The post of home secretary is filled up by a Haryana cadre IAS officer.

No confirmation on adviser’s post

As of now, there is no confirmation on the appointment of the new UT adviser as the present incumbent KK Sharma is also slated to move out of the city. The name of Vijay Kumar Dev, a 1987-batch AGMUT-cadre IAS officer, has been doing the rounds as the replacement for the present adviser.

Dev is currently serving as the chief electoral officer, Delhi, and Sharma has been appointed as the additional secretary, ministry of women and child development.
