Looking to curb potential trouble in view of the PU student elections slated for September 4, the UT police carried out checks at paying guest accommodations across the city on Saturday. The areas covered by the 160 cops in 80 teams included Sectors 10, 11, 15, 16, 22 and 23.

"No major problems were found other than a couple of sharp-edged weapons lying in the rooms of some youngsters. In any case, with the new academic session just starting, we will get new figures of PGs," said DSP (central) Ashish Kapoor. HT learnt that in at least one of the PG accommodations, a large number of liquor bottles were found but reported to be empty and kept for 'decoration'.
