Cops register 6 cases of eve-teasing
What could reflect on the pro-activeness of victims and police both, the local police arrested six persons on Saturday on charges of eve-teasing. Two others were nabbed for allegedly trying to outrage the modesty of two women in separate incidents.
In the first incident, four persons were arrested from near Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26. According to police, the accused were in a Mahindra Scorpio car and were spotted by PCR constable Ravinder Singh while they were passing lewd comments and making obscene gestures to the girls passing by.
The accused have been identified as Muktsar resident Jodh Singh, Ludhiana resident Randeep Singh, Fatehabad-based advocate Sarbuland Singh and Amritsar resident Chander Bhushan. All four have been booked under section 294 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station on the complaint of Ravinder Singh.
In another incident reported under Sector 17 police station, two persons were arrested for teasing a girl near Kiran Light point in Sector 22. Police identified the two accused as Aman Kamboj, 26, resident of SAS Nagar, and Munish Sharma, 27, resident of Sector 21, Chandigarh. The two were riding a Swift car bearing registration number CH-01-AE-1630 and were caught in the act by assistant sub-inspector Nafe Singh. Though they managed to escape when the ASI tried to apprehend them, their car registration number helped the police trace them.
In another incident, a resident of Sector 41 reported that three unknown boys made obscene gestures near Sector 41. A case has been registered in Sector 389 police station. No arrest has been made in this case.
Meanwhile, Amit Kumar, a resident of Sector 20, was arrested on the charge of trying to outrage the modesty of a 22-year-old girl in his neighbourhood. According to police, the accused has been booked under sections 341, 354, 452 and 506 of IPC at the Sector 19 police station.
In another incident, a Nayagaon resident was arrested for allegedly trying to outrage the modesty of a 28-year-old woman. Giving details, station house officer of Sector 11 police station, inspector Gurmukh Singh said the victim hired a three-wheeler from near Nayagaon barrier.
However, she was prevented from boarding the auto by another three-wheeler driver, as the said vehicle was from another stand. When the woman refused, the accused Rakesh Kumar allegedly pulled her out of the auto and abused her. A case under sections 341 and 354 of IPC has been registered at Sector 11 police station.
