Court stay on Haryana move to get Anjolie Menon’s home

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday granted an interim stay against the Haryana government’s move to acquire renowned artist and painter Anjolie Ela Menon’s prime property of “historical and artistic” significance in Gurgaon.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday granted an interim stay against the Haryana government’s move to acquire renowned artist and painter Anjolie Ela Menon’s prime property of “historical and artistic” significance in Gurgaon.

The Haryana government had sought to acquire the land for the proposed peripheral road of Sector- 58 in the notified master plan-2021.

Padamshree Anjolie Ela Menon, wife of Rear Admiral (retd) KR Menon, had moved the High Court stating the move as “illegal”.

The property of Menon is in Ghatta village of Gurgaon.

The High Court on May 5 had issued notice to the Haryana government and had ruled that the petitioner would be at liberty to move court for interim relief if she received a notice under Section 9 (move to take over the land) of the Land Acquisition Act 1984.

Anjolie had on Thursday again petitioned the High Court, seeking “interim relief”.
