The protest, under the banner of UT Powermen Union Chandigarh, was also organised to press the administration to fill up 500 vacant posts in the department.
Addressing the rally, union general secretary Gopal Dutt Joshi criticised the administration’s decision and describing the administration’s proposal to privatise the department as against public interest. He said they would oppose the proposal to privatise the electricity department tooth and nail.
Union president Ram Sarup criticised the administration for filling up vacancies in the department. “The delay in not filling up of the vacant posts has affected maintenance and repair,” he said.
