Farmers plan sit-ins at dist headquarters on July 29

The Punjab unit of All India Kisan Federation (AIKF) has scheduled statewide sit-ins at all district headquarters on July 29.

The Punjab unit of All India Kisan Federation (AIKF) has scheduled statewide sit-ins at all district headquarters on July 29.

This was decided at the federation's meeting held at Doraha. AIKF president Prem Singh Bhangu said the body will raise various issues concerning the farming community. Special focus would be on agrarian crisis and land acquisitions, said Bhangu.

    Shrikant Tyagi - the Noida politician whose claims of being a Bharatiya Janata Party leader have been denied by the BJP and who has been arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police for abusing and assaulting a woman - claimed Tuesday the woman 'is like (my) sister' and alleged a 'conspiracy' to 'politically decimate him'. Tyagi was booked Friday; he and his three associates face charges of 'outraging the modesty of a woman' against Tyagi and others.

    Bengaluru acid attack case: 770-page charge sheet filed, details inside

    Bengaluru police on Tuesday filed a 770-page charge sheet before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in an acid attack case that happened in the city in late April, news agency ANI reported Wednesday. As many as 92 witnesses have been mentioned in the charge sheet. The accused, Nagesh Babu, had been pursuing the victim for around seven years, during which he proposed marriage several times despite the victim's firm refusals.

    Former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested on July 23 in an alleged job scam case, has been reading compilations of the works of writer-activist Mahasweta Devia and sermons of 19th-century saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in his solitary cell at Kolkata's historic Presidency Jail now designated as a correctional home. Officials said Chatterjee has also requested a few other books on politics, economics, and law.

    Partly overcast weather, mercury expected to go up to 37 degrees in Delhi

    Delhi's air quality was in the satisfactory category on Wednesday morning as partly overcast weather was expected with a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and the maximum 37 degrees Celsius. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the hourly air quality index was 98 at 7am. On Sunday, the average 24-hour AQI was 112 in the moderate category with PM2.5 and PM 10 being the significant pollutants.
