The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday issued a notice to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a petition filed by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, sect head of Dera Sacha Sauda.
Ram Rahim has pleaded that the CBI special court in Panchkula be directed to send the letter written by alleged rape victim and former disciple of Gurmeet Ram Rahim for forensic examination.
The victim had denied during the court hearing that she had written the letter to Ram Rahim before leaving the dera in 2002. The letter praises Ram Rahim and there is no mention of any kind of sexual assault.
The letter is an important defence evidence in the case with the petition scheduled to come up for hearing on February 20.
A lower court, earlier this month had allowed Ram Rahim to get the documents examined by a handwriting expert.
However, Ram Rahim has been pressing for forensic examination of the letter.
Meanwhile, the trial on allegations of sexual exploitation of female disciples is being heard in a special CBI court in Panchkula.
