Haryana Transport Department has issued instructions to the secretaries of the Regional Transport Authorities in the state to launch a campaign to challan the goods vehicles if found carrying passengers.
Stating this, Sumita Misra, Transport Commissioner, Haryana said that there were reports that some goods vehicles were being used to carry passengers in the state and 65 such vehicles have been challaned in this year.
The Supreme Court in its recent judgment, has also directed the states and their authorities to take sufficient precautions to ensure that in order to prevent accidents, vehicles which are not authorised to carry persons, should not be utilised for the said purpose. The owners of the goods carrier indulge in the practice of carrying passengers just to make some profits at the cost of the precious human life, she added.
She said that a public notice has also been published by the department for the information of all concerned to avoid using the goods carrier for carrying the passengers as it endangers the security of passengers being carried in goods vehicle.
