Those who know him, describe him as an essentially competent and efficient officer. They also attempt to justify his alleged arrogance that stems from his no-nonsense attitude.
Amanjot is a 1997-batch direct assistant sub-inspector. He was elevated as an inspector under own-rank-and-pay policy of the Chandigarh police.
Amanjot has many credits to his name during his service. In 2004, Amanjot was instrumental in nabbing India's most wanted criminal Ranpal Gujjar. In 2005, he arrested a terrorist with arms and ammunition from the Sector-17 ISBT.
In 2007, Amanjot contributed in solving chartered accountant Rakesh Goyal's murder. In 2008, Amanjot helped in cracking the Anuradha murder case and solving the mystery shrouding the Dimpy shoot-out at Sukhna Lake.
In fact, Amanjot's contribution in solving the robbery cases such as the highway robbers and the Tansihq robbery also adds to his credits. Amanjot also got appreciation for his recent performance in solving the Sector-18 NRI kidnapping case.
The dark side
Initially, Amanjot was posted at the Sector-39 police station and also was attached with the traffic police. An inquiry was pending against him for picking up an innocent boy from his village and later framing him in a planning of dacoity case.
A complaint was lodged by a Sector-35 resident against him for allegedly grabbing his house. A complaint was also lodged against Amanjot for allegedly misbehaving with an NRI outside the Aroma hotel.
Unsolved cases
The crime branch failed to solve the Khushpreet murder case, Kashmira murder case and Neha Ahlawat murder case. Amanjot also remained in news for going along with another SI to pick up former SHO of Sector 34 Jagir Singh without following rules.
