Intruder suspected of rape, theft arrested

The local police have arrested a Burail resident on charges of outraging the modesty of Sector-44 resident and committing theft at her house on September 1. The accused has been identified as Varinder, alias Kalia.

The victim, who lives with her children, lodged a complaint in which she alleged that an unidentified person entered her house from the rear while she was sleeping on sofa. The victim claimed that the accused threatened her with dire consequences and took cash, golden jewellery from her house. He also outraged her modesty. The victim managed to come out of the room and bolted the door and raised an alarm. The accused fled from the spot.

A special team under inspector Maninder Singh was constituted to carry a probe into the case. A sketch of the suspect was prepared. He confessed to have committed the crime.
