J&K infants' death: Nurse sacked, suptd suspended

Medical negligence on part of staff at North Kashmir's Baramulla district hospital contributed to worsen the health of two newborn babies, which subsequently resulted in their death, a probe ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir government revealed on Monday.

Based on the findings of the three-member investigation team headed by deputy director (health), Kashmir, Masooda Shah, the state government sacked a nurse of the hospital, besides suspending medical superintendent and a generator operator. The action comes hours after chief minister Omar Abdullah chided doctors and paramedics for "not delivering despite being provided with latest equipments, generators, training and everything".

The parents had blamed the staff for not switching on generators following a power failure, leading to the death of babies due to the acute hypothermia (dangerously low body temperature).
