NHRC to hold 3-day open hearing for regional cases

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) would hold 3-day open hearing at Chandigarh from October 29 to 31, 2014, to consider pending cases and discuss important human rights issues concerning the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) would hold 3-day open hearing at Chandigarh from October 29 to 31, 2014, to consider pending cases and discuss important human rights issues concerning the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh.

An official spokesman said that the purpose of the open hearing was to consider the complaints of members belonging to scheduled castes who had grievances of any atrocity or negligence committed by a public servant or in prevention of atrocity.

He said that chairperson, NHRC, KG Balakrishnan, would inaugurate the open hearing on October 29 at 10 am at UT Guest House, and it would continue till 5 pm. Similarly, the full commission would sit on the second day of the open hearing and meetings would be held with NGOs, chief secretaries, DGPs, and senior officers of the state governments and UT on the last day of open hearing, he added.
