Panchayat polls: 'SAD' ruling the show so far

The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal has captured majority of the seats in Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Amritsar and Patiala besides leading in other zones. The trend shows it might continue to enjoy public support. Results so far:Ludhiana: SAD wrests 18 block samiti seats and one zila parishad seat; Kapurthala: Out of 10 zila parishad seats, SAD wins 5 and leading on other five; Amritsar: SAD wins in Kathunangal zila parishad zone; Bathinda: SAD wins one seat in zila parishad and 4 seats in block samiti. The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was increasing its majority in the state as the day progressed. As per the latest information, it was leading at almost the places.

All of its candidates were ahead of their counterparts by a comforable margin by afternoon.

The counting was underway since 8 am this morning amid heavy security and the results are expected by today evening.

The police have made elaborate security arrangements for the counting day. Apart from candidates, only one person per table will be allowed to enter the counting premises as the polling agents.

Ludhiana: SAD wrests 18 block samiti seats and one zila parishad seat

Bathinda: SAD wins one seat in zila parishad and 4 seats in block samiti
SAS Nagar: SAD wins 3 zila parishad seats; 8 block samitis
Gurdaspur: SAD wins two seats in Kahnuwan block samiti
Sangrur: SAD wins three seats in block samiti
