The Kurukshetra district police have given a clean chit to state finance minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha in an alleged case of committing indecency with a woman.
In her complaint filed to Kurukshetra police on July 16, the complainant had charged Chatha of molesting her at his Chandigarh house in November 2012 on the pretext of appointing her the chairperson of Pehowa municipal committee.
She had also alleged on July 15, when the Congress party observer G Rudra Raju reached Pehowa in Kurukshetra to get the feedback and forms of the ticket aspirants, Chatha had allegedly touched her cheeks.
The complainant is a municipal councilor from Pehowa, the constituency of Chatha.
The investigation officer and the deputy superintendent of police, Kurukshetra, Nupur Bishnoi told HT on Tuesday, a thorough investigation was held and there is no indecency by Chatha.
Nupur confirmed that the statement of the minister was recorded and there was no proof against Chatha.
“The complainant produced three witnesses but their narratives were different and failed to corroborate the charges of indecency. Thus no case was made out of the complaint,” said Bishnoi while adding, she had filed final report to the superintendent of police.
On another charge made in the complaint, Bishnoi said, no action could be taken in the alleged case of molestation as the alleged crime taken place in Chandigarh and it is not in the jurisdiction of the Haryana police.
Meanwhile, the complainant has threatened to approach the Punjab and Haryana high court against Chatha and the police authorities.
“Police is under political pressure to give a clean chit to Chatha. By terming my allegations baseless, the police had tried to defame me" the alleged victim told HT over phone on Tuesday.
