A Haryana police spokesman said a written communication had been sent to all police commissionerates in Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ambala-Panckhula, all superintendents of police and superintendents of police, railways, Ambala cantonment, asking them to inspect all such shops and godowns.

He said in view of the ongoing festival season, the possibility of unscrupulous elements manufacturing crackers without a licence from the competent authority could not be ruled out.

He said the sale and storage points should be located away from the densely populated areas and at places with adequate open space available on all sides.

The available space should be such that in case of any mishap, people should be able to get away from the area as quickly as possible, he said.

He said efforts of the police officials should be coordinated with those of the civil administration and excise and taxation department, along with shop inspectors and teams formed by respective deputy commissioners to ensure that firecrackers were sold, stored, handled and transported as per the government instructions.
