The Rewari Police on Thursday booked a policeman for raping a 35-year-old woman in the district. The accused has been identified as Jyoti alias Deepak, a policeman working in Faridabad. The police said they were yet to ascertain his rank.

The victim, a divorced single mother, alleged she was raped multiple times in the last couple of months by the accused, who is also a distant relative. She alleged that the accused used his position in the police to exploit her.

The woman lives with her 13-year-old son at a colony in Rewari.

According to reports said the woman had submitted a complaint in the women police station earlier, but no action was taken. Upset at the rebuff, she threatened to immolate herself at the police station on Wednesday, after which the police registered a case.

Rewari women police station incharge Saroj Bala refused to comment. Superintendent of police Sangeeeta Kalia said they have registered a case under section 376 of the IPC and have started the hunt to nab the accused.
