Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing crowds at the Sector 25 rally ground during his visit to the city on September 11. Sources said the venue was changed from Sector 34 owing to security reasons and to effectively manage the rush.
Also, the Prime Minister's visit to Sector 63 to inaugurate a housing complex has been cancelled. Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) chairman Maninder Singh said the PM would not be visiting Sector 63.
Sources said the visit was cancelled due to paucity of time and delay in completion of the project by the housing board. The PM, however, will hand over keys of the Sector 63 flats to successful allottees at the Sector 25 rally.
UT adviser Vijay Dev confirmed that the rally would be organised at Sector 25. Local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit president Sanjay Tandon said the PM would hand over the keys to successful CHB allottees at the Sector 25 rally ground and then address the gathering.
As per the schedule, after reaching the city, the PM will first proceed towards the international airport to inaugurate it. After that, his cavalcade will reach the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). Following the convocation at the premier institute, the PM will reach the Sector 25 rally ground around 11.30am.
Tandon said BJP leaders were busy making preparations for the rally and the message was being spread across all workers. Meetings are also being held at party level on arrangements to be made for the rally. BJP workers are also participating in a sanitation drive to make the city look cleaner during the PM visit.
