Season’s first case of H1N1 virus reported

Swine flu struck the city again with a 20-year-old woman testing positive on Wednesday. The patient, a resident of Sector 42, was admitted to a private hospital in SAS Nagar where she tested positive for the disease. According to doctors, the condition of the patient is stable.

In 2009, the year which saw a spurt in H1N1 influenza cases, city reported around 350 positive cases. Of them around 150 were from Chandigarh.

Earlier on Thursday, another woman who had flu-like symptoms was quarantined at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, and her samples were sent for testing.

Health workers are more prone to H1N1 swine flu virus. In 2009, total 38 doctors and seven nurses from city hospitals were found positive for the disease.
