As per details, she was serving life imprisonment for "sacrificing" her three-month-old daughter.

Police said she was earlier lodged at the Faridabad jail, but was shifted to the Rohtak jail one-and-half months ago in the female ward.

The police said she had gone to toilet around 10pm on Tuesday night and hung herself from the ceiling fan hook with her dupatta.

The matter came to fore when other women prisoners went to the toilet and found Sonia hanging. Jail superintendent Rajinder Siwach said Sonia was undergoing medical treatment for disturbed mental state and PGIMS medical staff was attending to her regularly.

A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the case.
