₹70 lakh of loot money missing case: i20 used in crime found

Ghaziabad: In connection with the siphoning off of about ₹70 lakh of loot money allegedly by seven Ghaziabad policemen, the i20 car in which a bag was transferred from the police vehicle on the night of September 24 was recovered on Thursday.
Seven policemen, including suspended woman SHO Laxmi Chauhan from Link Road police station, have been booked in the case and they are on the run. The loot case, filed on April 22, pertained to two men making off with money meant for replenishing ATMs.
The Link Road police had arrested Rajeev Sachaan and his accomplice Amir in connection with the case. While Amir was being brought to Ghaziabad from Delhi along with the money recovered from him, an i20 car had come near Maharajpur border and a bag was transferred to it from the police vehicle of suspended SHO.
“We already have CCTV footage of the bag being transferred and the driver of the police vehicle had also admitted to the same before a magistrate. We were looking for the i20 and found it at a parking lot at the Old Ghaziabad railway station. It was locked and we got it opened in the presence of two independent eyewitnesses,” Atish Kumar Singh, circle officer (city 2), said.
“The parking contractor told us that the car was parked there since September 25 when we lodged an FIR against the seven police personnel. No recovery was made from the car but it has been seized. It belongs to police constable Dheeraj Bhardwaj who is among seven who are on the run,” Singh said.
The officials said six of the seven personnel have applied for anticipatory bail at the anti-corruption court in Meerut and the hearing will take place on September 9. .
Earlier, the Ghaziabad police had procured search warrants against the seven personnel and searched their private premises. The police recovered about ₹1.2 lakh cash from the residence of SHO Chauhan.
