Rain in Karnataka continued in several areas, filling up reservoirs and dams, with more to come, according to forecasts.
The Karnataka natural disaster monitoring centre has predicted widespread moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of the southern state, with isolated very heavy rains likely over coastal districts and widespread very light to moderate rains likely in the Malnad area.
The centre also posted a detailed status of reservoir levels of various basins in the state with storage and flows as of August 8. Karnataka has seen heavy rainfall over the past weeks.
According to a report by news agency PTI, at least one lakh cusecs of water were released from Tungabhadra dam after heavy downpour in the area. In total, 33 floodgates were opened, following which many protected heritage sites in Hampi were submerged.

{{/usCountry}}The areas that received the highest amount of rainfall over a 24 hour period till 8.30 am on August 8 were Heggadde (198 mm) and Hetturu (189.5 mm) in Sakaleshpura Taluk and Hereangadi in Honnavar Taluk with 185.5 mm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts.
Meanwhile, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Hassan and Shivamogga districts were given a ‘yellow' alert.
Forecasts from the KSNDMC for Bengaluru's BBMP area said a generally cloudy sky can be observed with widespread very light rains likely over the area, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 26 and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.
