At -1.4°C, Srinagar experiences season’s coldest night

Freezing temperatures were recorded at all weather stations of the Valley, the meteorological department (MeT) said.

MeT officials said Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, down from minus 0.8 degrees on the night before.

“The mercury fell 1.5 degrees below normal in Srinagar during the night,” an official of MeT department said.

Pahalgam in the south was the coldest place in the Valley with the night temperature of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, while it was zero degree at the ski resort of Gumlarg in north Kashmir.

MeT department deputy director Mukhtar Ahmad said the minimum temperature in most stations of Kashmir valley settled below freezing point.

“At -3.6°C, Pahalgam is the coldest MeT station in Kashmir whereas Bhadarwah at 3.4°C is the coldest station in Jammu region,” he said.

In Jammu, the mercury settled at 9.8°C while Banihal recorded a low of 5°C .

Ahmad said the weather was mainly clear throughout Jammu and Kashmir.

“Mainly dry weather is expected till November end. There is no forecast of any major snow spell till then,” he added.

Ladakh’s Kargil witnessed a minimum temperature of minus 11.3°C while it was minus 8.8°C in Leh. Drass froze at minus 12.7°C.
