Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged the entire India to dream big and has shown the world that dreams can be achieved if pursued with determination and persistence, said Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Indian Ambassador to the US, at the international launch of two books on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at ‘Vishwa Sadbhavana’ event organised by the NID Foundation at the City of Chicago, the United States of America. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chief Patron, NID Foundation, and chancellor of Chandigarh University (CU) hailed Prime Minister Modi as an illustrious leader, highly experienced strategist but above all a great humanist and expressed gratitude for the pro-Sikh decision under the current dispensation.

NSO organises quiz contest

Chandigarh The ministry of statistics and programme implementation is celebrating the Iconic Week under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from June 27 to July 3. As part of the week-long celebrations, National Statistical Office (field operations division), Chandigarh, had on Monday organised a ‘quiz contest, ANVESHA 2022’, on official statistics for college/university students at State Capital Regional Office, Chandigarh.

Mentorship programme held at CCA

Chandigarh A mentorship programme was held at the Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) to sensitise the first-year students of B.Arch. Dr Sangeeta Bagga Mehta, principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA), welcomed invited speaker Dr Namrita Kalsi, chief architect, New Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and alumni of the CCA. She impressed upon the need for mentorship in light of the National Education Policy, 2020, and multidisciplinary approaches in Architecture and its curriculum.

Enactus PU secures first position

Chandigarh Enactus, Panjab University (PU) has secured the first position amongst all Enactus India teams, in Colgate-Palmolive Know your OQ Challenge, which focusses on promoting dental health and hygiene. This challenge started by Colgate-Palmolive in February 2022 is aimed at making people understand and improve their oral health quotient and understand the links between oral health and overall health and wellbeing.

ICAI holds seminar on tax evasion

Chandigarh : The Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali Chapter of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) in association with the tax research department, Direct and Indirect Taxation Committee-HQ and Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) organised a seminar at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Hall in Sector 31 on tax evasion and tax reforms in India. “A certified management accountant has an important role to play in tax reforms in India,” said Rakesh Bhalla, central council member of the ICAI. Anil Sharma, chairman, tax committee of the NIRC, also spoke on various topics related to the GST.

AAP councillors meet UT adviser over Dadumajra landfill

Chandigarh : A team of 10 AAP councillors led by the Leader of Opposition, Yogesh Dhingra, met the UT adviser Dharam Pal, here on Monday, to press upon him the need to fix the Dadumajra landfill before the monsoons. The councillors said city residents are experiencing health concerns due to the smell emanating from the dump site and the smoke generated by frequent fires. With the rains last week, things have become worse, he told the adviser.

Chandigarh Vehicle registration number 0001 of new series CH01-CK was auctioned for ₹12.21 lakh here on Monday. A total of 436 registration numbers were auctioned and fetched the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) ₹1.56 crore in all. The second highest bid was ₹5.71 lakh for the number 0007. 0009 was purchased for ₹ 5.64 lakh; 0008 for ₹3.7 lakh; 0005 for ₹3.51 lakh; 0013 for ₹3.51 lakh; 9999 for ₹3.31 lakh; 0002 for ₹3.25 lakh and 0055 for ₹3.12 lakh.

UT’s industry body seeks implementation of MSME Act

Chandigarh To further accelerate the pace of revenue and employment generation along with other multiple direct and indirect benefits, the Chamber of Chandigarh Industries (CCI), the apex body of the city’s industrial units, has sought implementation of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Act in the city, one-time VAT settlement for industries and withdrawal of building violation and misuse notices to industrial unit owners.

Having detailed deliberations on the issue during an executive committee meeting, the CCI has now pinned its hope on the UT administration, expecting favourable decisions at the earliest.
