Chandigarh cop’s salary to be attached for not appearing in court
The cop, sub-inspector Ashok Kumar, is part of the investigation in a 2018 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act case and also a prosecution witness
Taking strict note of a Chandigarh Police sub-inspector’s repeated failure to appear before it, the court of additional district and sessions judge Dr Rajneesh has ordered that his salary be attached till further orders.
Sub-inspector Ashok Kumar is part of the investigation in a 2018 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case and also a prosecution witness.
On September 5, no prosecution witness was present in court, so the case was adjourned and the court had summoned all remaining witnesses.
But while the summons for Kumar was received back as duly served, he wasn’t present in court on October 7, 2022, due to VIP duty.
The hearing was then fixed for January 20, 2023, as other trials were already fixed in between. But he missed the hearing again.
“Since the matter pertains to 2019 and majority of the prosecution witnesses have already been examined, let SI Ashok be now summoned by way of bailable warrant in the sum of ₹10,000 with one surety of like amount for February 8, 2023,” the court ordered.
The case pertains to the arrest of Sukhwinder Singh, 25, of Jhujhar Nagar, Mohali, after he was found carrying 12 vials of buprenorphine injections and 50 gm charas near Satsang Bhawan, Maloya, on December 27, 2018. A case under Sections 20 and 22 of the NDPS Act was registered in this regard at the Maloya police station.
