Chandigarh | Panjab University’s UIET receives ₹94L grant

Under the Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in universities, the Government of India gave UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh a 94 lakh grant for the establishment and execution of a centre of excellence

Computer Science and Engineering, UIET, Panjab University, has been selected for a 94 lakh-grant for the duration of five years under the Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in universities and higher educational institutions (FIST) level-1 program by the department of science and technology, Government of India to set up a data centre unit for the establishment and execution of centre of excellence.

Man arrested for stabbing 33-year-old near Hotel Aroma

Chandigarh A Sector 22 resident was arrested for stabbing a 33-year-old man over old enmity near Hotel Aroma in Sector 22 on Saturday. The accused was identified as Deshraj, 45. The victim, Varun, a resident of Sector 22, was admitted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, and is stated to be out of danger. The accused has been booked under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Accused of harassment, ITI principal suspended

Ambala

A day after Government Industrial Training Institute (Women) Ambala City students staged a protest accusing principal Bhupender Pal Singh of harassing female staff members, the Haryana government suspended him with immediate effect, officials said on Saturday.

In the order issued by the skill development and industrial training department, the principal was suspended and his headquarter was fixed in Panchkula.

On Friday, some teachers had also complained with the skill development and industrial training minister Mool Chand Sharma and later to the home minister Anil Vij. Singh, meanwhile, has refuted the allegations.

Man caught with stolen bike

Chandigarh Police arrested Jagtar Singh, alias Taru, 27, after recovering a stolen motorcycle from him. The accused, a resident of Gobindgarh village, Mohali, was found riding the vehicle with a fake registration number in Sector 34 on Friday. A case under Sections 473 and 411 of the IPC was registered.

Cash, gold stolen from Mauli Jagran house

Chandigarh Police are on the lookout for thieves, who struck at a house in Mauli Jagran on February 20 and decamped with 8,000 in cash and several ornaments in broad daylight.

Birjesh Pandey, a painter, complained to the police that he was away at work on February 20, while his wife was out to buy vegetables around 3pm. When she returned home, she found the main door’s lock broken and realised one gold mangal sutra, a pair of earrings, a pair of silver anklets, 8,000 in cash and two mobile phones were stolen.

On his complaint, a case under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Mauli Jagran police station on Friday.

PU dental college marks dentist day

Chandigarh The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) on Saturday observed Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with the support of its regional and chapters across the country. The Internal Auditing & Assurance Standards Board, jointly with Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali chapter of the institute organised a felicitation programme and a seminar on strategic approach to effective corporate governance.
