Verma has been sent to jail in Ambala. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on March 15.
In June 2017, charges were framed by special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh.
It was mentioned that in November 2016, Verma, while working as the assistant garrison engineer, being public servant, demanded and agreed to accept bribe of ₹60,000 from complainant Surender Sharma, a partner in AR Constructions.
“On November 24, 2016, Verma accepted ₹25,000 from the complainant as reward for issuing completion certificate and ensuring hassle-free final pending payment in three civil contract works undertaken by the firm of the complainant,” the order mentioned.
“Secondly, Verma, being a public servant, by corrupt and illegal means, or otherwise abusing his position as a public servant obtained for himself pecuniary advantage to the tune of ₹25,000,” it was mentioned.
