Israeli tourist who went missing on Hamta Pass trek in Himachal Pradesh found

Rescue teams were on the trail of the trekker after he failed to reach Koksar in Lahaul-Spiti district on Sunday night; Israeli embassy even arranged for a chopper to trace the 26-year-old

A 26-year-old Israeli trekker who went missing at Hamta Pass trek between Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh has been found, police said.

The trekker, Ron Yaron, was found 4km from Chhatru base camp towards the 4,270-metre Hamta Pass.

State Disaster Management Authority director Sudesh Mokhta said the Lahaul-Spiti district emergency operation centre (DEOC) had shared on Sunday that two Israeli trekkers, Yuvan Cohan, 24, and Ron, were crossing Hamta Pass. While Cohan reached Koksar on Sunday night, Ron did not.

The duo had started their trek from Manali in Kullu district through Hamta top towards Koksar in Lahaul-Spiti district on June 9.

The Manali sub divisional magistrate deployed a rescue team, including two members of the Adventure Tours Operators Association , Sharma said.

The Israeli embassy arranged a private chopper for searching for the missing trekker.

A police team along with locals was also despatched to the location to trace Ron, Mokhta said.

The 25-km Hamta Pass trek is considered to be moderate but tricky.
