J&K Police suspends cop for driving in inebriated state

Jammu and Kashmir Police have suspended a cop for driving in an inebriated state in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, an official of police said on Sunday.

A departmental enquiry has also been ordered to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, informed the police officials. (File)

The suspended cop has been identified as head constable Javid Ahmad, they said. He has been placed under suspension after he crashed his vehicle at Sheeri check post while driving in an inebriated condition.

“HC Javid Ahmad, presently posted in Uri area, was driving an Alto vehicle on the night of March 13. During the incident, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Sheeri Naka barrier. Fortunately, no injuries were reported,” the official said.

“Taking serious note of the misconduct and violation of discipline, the official has been placed under suspension with immediate effect,” he said.

A departmental enquiry has also been ordered to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
