Ludhiana police to go door-to-door to sensitise elderly about online frauds
Sub-inspector Jatinder Singh, in-charge at Cyber Crime cell, said, “Police officials are personally visiting the houses of elderly living alone in Ludhiana and making them aware about the online frauds. They have been asked not to share the debit card, credit card credentials, bank account number and OTP with anyone.”
Being a soft target, elderly people end up losing their hard-earned money to online frauds. Following repeated incidents of online frauds with elderly persons, police have initiated a special drive to educate and make them aware by visiting their residence and urging them to not share their bank details with anyone.
Officials of cyber crime cell said, “In the first phase, they are educating elderly persons who are living alone”

They have also been asked not to click on the links they receive from unknown numbers, as it could be a trap.
The sub-inspector added that fraudsters were duping the locals impersonating as their relatives. He further added that the cyber crime cell was receiving such complaints every day. He also appealed to locals to not believe such lucrative messages and schemes.

Professors from Malaysia train vet varsity students
Ludhiana Dr Jalila Abu, professor and deputy dean from University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and Dr Hazilawati Hamzah, associate professor and deputy dean from University Putra Malaysia were invited as international visiting professors under the World Bank-funded Institutional Development Plan (IDP), under National Agricultural Higher Education Project, at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) on Thursday. Abu, with experience of over 20 years in the field of avian medicine and surgery, interacted with undergraduate students (UG) of College of Veterinary Science on various aspects of avian restraining, handling, medicine, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, in the form of theory lectures and hands-on practice, in the department of veterinary surgery and radiology. Hamzah with expertise in the field of clinical pathology imparted training to UG students on various aspects of clinical pathology viz hematology, interpretation of blood results, diagnostic cytopathology, urine analysis, organ function tests, in the form of theory lectures and hands on training, in the diagnostic laboratories of Animal Disease Research Centre. Students appreciated the effort of both the professors for providing hands-on training in their respective field. Vice-chancellor Dr Inderjeet Singh and Dr SPS Ghuman, dean, College of Veterinary Science and principal investigator of the IDP project, welcomed the international experts and discussed the scope of student and faculty exchange programmes between the two universities. Besides, UG students, interns, postgraduate students and faculty interacted with the experts and discussed future teaching and collaborative research activities.
PAU V-C closes ranks with US-based expert on promotion of soybean cultivation
Ludhiana To promote soybean cultivation in the state, a meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Satbir Singh Gosal, vice-chancellor, PAU. Kulwinder Singh Gill, a wheat breeder from Washington State University, who is also working on soybean, was specially invited for the meeting. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, director of research, VS Sohu, head, department of plant breeding and genetics, and BS Gill, principal soybean breeder from PAU, also attended the meeting. The problems and prospects of soybean cultivation were discussed in detail. It was felt that if soybean has to outcompete rice, the average yield should be more than 2.5 t/ha. It was also pointed out that yellow mosaic virus was the main hindrance in realising the yield potential of soybean in Punjab. To incorporate mosaic resistance into susceptible varieties, at least 8-10 years were required through conventional breeding. Kulwinder Singh Gill extended his support in terms of advanced technological interventions to PAU and promised developing disease resistant soybean varieties through biotechnological tools within 2-3 years. It was decided that high-yielding varieties of soybean be selected for transferring mosaic resistance for cultivation in Punjab.
Elevated Ferozepur road project : Rajya Sabha MP directs NHAI to clear debris within a week
Ludhiana In order to ensure seamless movement of traffic, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjeev Arora on Thursday directed National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to immediately clear all debris on service lanes along the elevated road project on Ludhiana-Ferozepur four-lane highway within a week. NHAI project director Krishan Sachdeva assured the MP that the work would be completed on war footing. The MP held detailed deliberations over various road infrastructure projects being executed by the NHAI in district and asked officers to speed up the pace of works being carried out on the project and complete within set timelines. He said commuters travelling along the elevated road project on Ludhiana-Ferozepur four-lane highway were harried a lot due to careless attitude of executive agencies and debris must be cleared within a week so that people could travel smoothly. He said he would meet NHAI chairperson on September 6 to discuss the various road infrastructure projects, besides demanding a re-look into the design of Bharat Nagar Chowk flyover, if possible, on which some businessmen were raising doubts. ‘6 per cent cattle affected with LSD in Ludhiana’ Arora was chairing a meeting with the officials of district administration and other departments at the District Administrative Complex. He also took a detailed review of the situation of lumpy skin disease in Ludhiana and said only six per cent cattle were affected with this disease here. He also asked the officers to accord top priority to the works of public welfare so that benefits of the pro-people and development-oriented policies of AAP government could reach to people at grass-root level. The meeting was also attended by deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik, chief administrator GLADA Amarpreet Sandhu, assistant deputy commissioners Rahul Chaba and Amarjit Bains, additional chief administrator GLADA Amrinder Malhi, besides several others.
