Ludhiana: Not allowed to enter house, addict fires in air, arrested

A 26-year-old man opened fire in the air using an illegal pistol on Tuesday morning after his wife did not allow him to enter the house as he was drunk and made him stay out in cold previous night in Baba Ji Colony, Jamalpur, police said. The man has been arrested and his firearm seized.

The accused, Lovepreet Singh, works as a mechanic. He came home drunk on Monday night. His wife Preeti, upset with his drinking and drug habits, refused to let him enter the house. As a result, Lovepreet spent the whole night outside.

The couple argued again the next morning. In anger, Lovepreet pulled out a pistol and fired a shot in the air. Sub-inspector Balwinder Kaur, station house officer (SHO) of the Jamalpur police station, said they received information about the gunshot and reached the spot immediately. The police detained Lovepreet and seized the illegal pistol.

During questioning, Lovepreet told the police that he had found the gun in an abandoned plot. However, the police didn’t believe his claim and are investigating where he actually got the weapon from.

Lovepreet is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway, officials added.
