Magisterial probe ordered into arson, blockade by Kanwariyas in Yamunanagar
A car was set on fire by Kanwariyas after it rammed into four of them in Radaur sub-division of Yamunanagar district; Radaur sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Satinder Siwach has been appointed to probe the matter and submit a report within three days
A day after at least four Kanwariyas were injured in a mishap with a car that was subsequently set on fire by their fellows in Radaur sub-division of Yamunanagar district, deputy commissioner Parth Gupta on Monday ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
“Following mishap on July 24, a situation of road blockade and arson arose that disrupted law and order. A few kanwariyas were injured in the accident and others destroyed public property in protest. Radaur sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Satinder Siwach has been appointed to probe the matter and submit a report within three days,” an official statement read.
In the orders, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajat Gulia and station house officer (SHO) inspector Raj Kumar have also been asked to assist Siwach in his probe.
On Sunday, a speeding Honda City, bearing a Yamunanagar registration number, rammed into a group of Kanwariyas on a single-road section of the highway near Dhaulra village between Radaur and Ladwa sub-division of Kurukshetra.
The injured were identified as Rakesh Kumar, Shivam, Suraj and Sunil, all from Karnal district, who were taken to different hospitals by police and others.
Meanwhile, the car driver fled the spot leaving his vehicle behind.
Videos emerging from the spot showed several men hitting the car, causing it to turn sideways near the fields, only to be brought back to the middle of the road and set on fire as cops remained mute spectators.
The men also blocked the road raising anti-government slogans, and caused inconvenience to the commuters. The road was opened after over two hours as police pacified the Kanwariyas and told them that those injured are out of danger.
A case was registered against the unknown car driver under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (endangering human life) of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of security agent Ramesh Kumar at Radaur police station.
The cop said the pilgrims were returning home and walking towards Ladwa, when the driver hit them after going to the wrong side.
DC Gupta said, “The injured were discharged last night. Preliminary probe suggests that the car was speeding and the driver was drunk.”
On being asked about the diversion routes and absence of police on the said section, as claimed, Gupta said both points will be clear after the report is received from the SDM.
