Punjab: Woman held for killing 5-year-old daughter

A woman from Kubba village in Barnala has been arrested and charged with murder after her five-year-old daughter died after both jumped into a canal on Tuesday evening.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred due to an ongoing family feud. Villagers managed to pull both the woman and her daughter from the Harigarh Canal. While the woman survived, the girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Dhanaula Police Station SHO Lakhvir Singh stated that he received a call from Kubba village sarpanch regarding the incident.
The woman’s husband informed the police that domestic disputes frequently led to his wife seeking refuge at her parents’ home. He alleged that his wife first threw their daughter into the canal before jumping in herself. The police have registered a murder case against the mother and arrested her.
The body of the girl will be sent for the post-mortem examination.
Barnala DSP Satvir Singh said the woman has been arrested under Section 103 of the BNS.
