Haryana CM announces scheme for defaulting power consumers to clear pending bills
Consumers whose bill dispute cases are pending in any judicial forum will also benefit from the scheme, but only if they withdraw their cases.
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday announced Electricity Surcharge Waiver Scheme 2022, under which defaulting power consumers can pay their outstanding principal amount in lump sum or in instalments.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, the CM said that this scheme will be applicable to the defaulting power consumers including those in the domestic sector, the government, and those who are yet to clear their dues since December last year. Besides, consumers whose bill dispute cases are pending in any judicial forum will also benefit from the scheme, but only if they withdraw their cases. This scheme will be applicable for three months.
Sharing further details about the scheme's benefits for domestic consumers, Khattar said that all such consumers will be able to pay their outstanding principal amount in lump sum or in three installments. Further, a five per cent discount will also be given to such consumers if they clear the dues in one go.
“Waiver of frozen surcharge will be done in installments along with regular payment of 6 bills,” the CM said.
The BJP leader said that for all other consumers the late payment surcharge will be re-calculated at the simple rate of 10 per cent per annum; at present it is calculated at the rate of 1.5 percent monthly.
Additional chief secretary of the power department PK Das said that the total arrears of domestic (rural) consumers are Rs. 4969 crore and domestic (urban) are ₹459 crore including the principal and surcharge.
