Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Shutrana Kulwant Singh conducted a surprise checking at the Patran civil hospital and found a senior medical officer (SMO) in an alleged inebriated condition on Monday.

The MLA along with his workers reached hospital premises following complaints from locals about SMO Dr Rajesh Kumar misbehaving with visitors in an inebriated condition.

The MLA said a written complaint has been filed with the police and the health authorities.

“I was receiving multiple complaints before elections too, but nobody was taking action against him, as he enjoyed political patronage,” he said.

Meanwhile, the health authorities, including civil surgeon Dr Prince Sodhi, reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

“His urine and blood samples have been taken for medical investigation. Senior officers at the directorate level will be informed about the incident so that required action could be taken against the erring SMO,” the civil surgeon said.

Four AAP MLAs review working of govt offices in Moga

Moga All the four newly-elected AAP MLAs of Moga on Monday reviewed the working of various government offices and institutions in the district and asked the employees to ensure transparency and promptness while discharging their duties.

Manjit Singh Bilaspur of Nihal Singh Wala, Davinderjit Singh Dhos of Dharamkot, Amritpal Singh Sukhanand of Baghapurana and Amandeep Kaur Arora of Moga visited various government offices and institutions and held meetings with senior officials, including deputy commissioner Harish Nair and senior superintendent of police Cahranjit Singh Sohal.

Nair assured the MLAs that the district administration would provide government services to the people within the stipulated time frame without any harassment.

Stressing that concerted efforts were needed to change the existing system, the MLAs asked the senior officials and employees to work in government offices promptly.

Employees, who have been sitting in the same office for a long time, should be transferred and the looting of contractors in government institutions be stopped immediately. Arrangements must be made for security and other basic amenities at Shahidi Park and Nature Park, they said.

They visited the civil hospital and asked the authorities to provide basic facilities to the people by all means. They also visited the government schools and reviewed the arrangements.

DC Nair also requested the MLAs to help the administration in making the people aware of the importance of not burning wheat stubble during the upcoming harvest season to avoid air pollution.
