: The Panipat police have arrested three wanted criminals involved in several cases, including that of a murder, following a brief exchange of fire.

Panipat superintendent of police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan said that the accused have been identified as Sachin Kumar alias Kuki of Rohtak, Ashok Kumar alias Pintu of Lohari in Panipat district and Dayanand of Kaithal district.

During interrogation, it was found that the accused were involved in a kidnapping and murder of a taxi driver of Panipat city last month. Also, it was found that they were involved in the loot at the liquor shop in Alupur village of the district, he said.

The SP said that the accused were arrested on Monday night following a tip off that they were in Panipat and were plotting to commit robbery. The accused opened fire and the police had to retaliate.

Acording to police, the accused Sachin was also facing a separate murder case and was out on bail. Dayanad was facing a case of vehicle theft.
