Two killed after car plunges into gorge in Himachal’s Kangra

Two people were killed and three others were injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into a gorge in the Shahpur area of Himachal’s Kangra district, police said on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Karan Bahadur, 40, and Kareena Devi, 18. The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred on the Ghera–Kareri road under the jurisdiction of the McLeodganj police station, where the car went out of control and fell into a deep gorge. They were returning from a function when the incident happened.

The accident came to light on Saturday morning when locals passing along the road spotted a damaged car in the deep gorge below and alerted the police. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was completely wrecked. It is suspected that the accident occurred during the night, leaving the injured without assistance for several hours.

With the help of locals, the police team immediately transported the injured to a nearby hospital. The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, due to their critical condition. Police officials said the cause of the mishap is under investigation.
