Union ministry honours Ludhiana doctor

Fortis hospital’s gastroenterology director Rajoo Singh Chhina was given the award of excellence by the Union ministry of health and family welfare in recognition of his contribution to medical education and service as a board member of National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences.

Singh is the governing board member of the National Board, the All India Institute of Medical Science, Deoghar. He is actively associated with the United Nations in a capacity as advisor to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said post-graduate medical education needs to be streamlined according to the needs of the country keeping in mind that the majority of the population resides in rural areas. He urged the medical fraternity of Punjab and northern India to help in the propagation of medical science.

Union minister of health and family welfare Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the 21st convocation function of the National Board, stressing upon the need of the board in furtherance of medical education in India. He added that every district in the country will have a medical college.
