A 55-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Rajouri Garden on Thursday evening, police said, adding they have initiated inquest proceedings in the case.

Deputy commissioner of police (west) Ghanshyam Bansal said the control room received a call from a hospital around 4.30pm informing them that a man had been brought dead to the hospital.
Police then went to his house t inspect it. “Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code-- where police enquire and report on the suicide-- are being conducted in the matter,” the officer said.
According to police, the man lived with his son and two sisters and ran a marble business. “We have not recovered a suicide note so far,” a police officer aware of the matter said.
According to an AAP leader, the man was trying to get a ticket to contest the MCD election.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled the man’s death and tweeted that his family had the party’s support.
