Cash van guard shot dead in north Delhi, suspect flees with ₹8lakh: Police

An unidentified man shot dead the security guard of a cash van and fled with around ₹8lakh kept in the vehicle outside a private bank’s ATM booth near Jagatpur flyover in north Delh’s Wazirabad, where it had come to refill cash in the machine on Tuesday evening, police said.
The murder and robbery took place around 5pm. A case is being registered at the Wazirabad police station, the police said.
Deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said around 5pm, the police control room received a call regarding a firing incident with loot of a cash van in Wazirabad area after which the police reached the spot.

“During the local enquiry, it was learnt that at 4:50 pm, one cash van arrived at ICICI Bank ATM booth near Jagatpur flyover for refilling cash. One person came from behind and fired at the guard of the cash van. The person took the money and fled. The guard was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said DCP Kalsi.
The deceased person has been identified.
“As of now, we have learnt that ₹8lakh was looted. Since another employee of the cash van who has the logbook of the cash went to the hospital with the injured guard, we are still in the process of verifying the exact looted amount,” added Kalsi.
