Delhi CM to launch ICU, endoscopy unit and vaccine drive at GTB Hospital on Feb 28

Delhi's CM Rekha Gupta will launch an HPV vaccination drive for 14-year-old girls and inaugurate a new ICU and endoscopy unit at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta will launch the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive for 14-year-old girls at the Delhi government-run Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital on Saturday.

The chief minister will also inaugurate two additional facilities, a 10-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a new endoscopy unit, at the hospital.

The vaccination launch is part of a nationwide drive. Following the inauguration, eligible girls can register on the U-WIN portal to get the vaccination, which will be administered free of cost.

Speaking about the newly launched ICU unit, a hospital official said, “After COVID, some ventilators and ICU equipments were lying defunct due to technical issues. We have refurbished and repaired them to operationalise the 10-bed ICU unit. No new equipment has been procured.”

Official added that the hospital earlier had 89 ICU beds --- 56 for paediatric patients and 33 for adults. “With this addition, the capacity for adult ICU care has increased. This will help ease the shortage of ICU beds for critically ill patients. The new unit is equipped with ventilator facilities,” the official added.
