Delhi man assaults wife, threatens to kill her; held

A 35-year-old man was arrested in Paharganj for assaulting his wife with an iron rod and threatening her with an illegal pistol over infidelity suspicions.

A 35-year-old man was arrested from Paharganj on Thursday for allegedly assaulting his wife with an iron rod and threatening to kill her while brandishing an illegal pistol, on the suspicion of an extramarital affair, police said on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner of police (central) Nidhin Valsan identified the accused as Lokesh Chauhan, a multi-tasking staffer at Lady Hardinge Medical College. He said that the weapon later recovered from his residence after an overnight search.

“A PCR call was received on Thursday reporting domestic violence at a house in Paharganj. When police reached the spot, the complainant told investigators that her husband, Lokesh Chauhan, had been accusing her of having an affair with his cousin,” the officer said.

Earlier that day, Chauhan had allegedly dragged her to the cousin’s house to confront him. However, the cousin was not home, they returned home, and the assault started, Valsan said.

Based on the woman’s statement, a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered at the Paharganj police station. Police said the source of the firearm is being tracked.
